An onsite education service aimed at empowering the aged care workforce to create meaningful changes to care environments via the application of key design principles. Our team can enable multidisciplinary teams to use an existing environment more effectively, plan a new facility or refurbish an existing one. The typical components of Environments Consultancy include: 1. Establishment of an Action Group 2. Introductory Zoom meeting 3. Completion of at least one Environmental Assessment by Action Group 4. Onsite workshop for Action Group 5. Mentoring - ongoing Zoom sessions for development/implementation of Action Plan 6. Written report by Environments Consultant Progression through consultancy is dependent on site engagement, e.g. progression to Step 5 only occurs once Steps 1-4 complete.

Learning Outcomes

While parts of the consultancy will be tailored to meet the specific needs of the client, over the course of the consultancy period the organisation and staff will:
  • Be introduced a person living with dementia (i.e. who are we designing/ supporting/caring for?) and why the environment matters.
  • Increase understanding the relationship between environment and behaviour.
  • Discuss the meaning of evidence based key design principles.
  • Applying ten principles of designing for people with dementia in the acute context.
  • Introducing the content and use of Environmental Assessment Tools.
  • Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of acute environments.
  • Create an Action Plan to implement environmental changes, with guidance from consultant.
