This unit will provide a critical examination of the state and complexity of the Australian health and social care system as it relates to older adults. You will become adept at accessing online and other resources provided to support aged care, as well as the spectrum of services that older adults can access. Through case studies, you will develop skills to interact with, guide and support people to engage with these services. There is a focus on realising authentic consumer directed care whilst empowering individuals to negotiate and understand the system. The unit will introduce how to engage with older adults requiring quality care and support. This unit of study is part of the Diploma of Ageing Studies and Services, offered by the University of Tasmania.
